Favorite Music

Rise and Shine by Randy Travis is my favorite album of music. The following song lyrics are from my favorite songs on the album.

RAISE HIM UP

When I first met his mama she was just nineteen
Couldn't say for certain who the father was
But I have known him since he was a pup
And I'm gonna raise him up

If you never knew your daddy like I never knew mine
It feels like everyone knows you're fatherless
This boy may not be blood of my blood
But I'm gonna raise him up

I'll provide for him, walk beside of him
I am strong enough
'Cause it's time he knew what a son can do
With a father's love

Well he could change the world
You only have to look at Joseph a couple thousand years ago
When he was a newborn baby he named Jesus
He said He may not be blood of my blood
Still I'm gonna raise him up

I'll provide for him, walk beside of him
I am strong enough
I will show Him too what a Son can do
With a father's love
And He will change the world

Thirty-three years later when the Son was in His grave
Broken and abandoned by the world He came to save
His real Dad said, He's mine, Blood of my Blood
And I'm gonna raise Him up

I'll provide for you, walk beside of you
I am strong enough
I have seen from you what a son can do
With a father's love
One man changed the world
And He could change your world
But you gotta raise Him up
Raise Him up

As an adoptive father, I get choked up whenever I hear Randy Travis sing that song.

THREE WOODEN CROSSES

A farmer and a teacher, a hooker and a preacher
Ridin' on midnight bus bound for Mexico
One was headed for vacation, one for higher education
Two of them were searchin' for lost souls

That driver never ever saw the stop sign
And eighteen-wheelers can't stop on a dime

Chorus:
There are three wooden crosses
On the right side of the highway
Why there's not four of them
Heaven only knows
I guess it's not what you take
When you leave this world behind you
It's what you leave behind when you go

That farmer left a harvest, a home and eighty acres
The faith and love for growin' things
In his young son's heart
And that teacher left her wisdom
In the minds of lots of children
Did her best to give 'em all a better start

And the preacher whispered, "Can't you see the promised land?"
As he laid his bloodstained Bible in that hooker's hands

Chorus

That's the story that our preacher told last Sunday
As he held that bloodstained Bible up
For all of us to see
He said, bless the farmer, and the teacher and that preacher
Who gave this Bible to my mamma
Who read it to me

There are three wooden crosses
On the right side of the highway
Why there's not four of them
Now I guess we know
It's not what you take
When you leave this world behind you
It's what you leave when you go

There are three wooden crosses
On the right side of the highway

I'm not sure a song could tell the story of God's grace any better.

I would keep going, but Christopher just woke up, and Janet's still asleep.
