A Celebration of Life

The Dallas Morning News has published one of the most moving stories I have ever read in a newspaper. Please read it at:

(Part 1) www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/localnews/stories/083009thomas_part1.11b55ace4.html

(Part2) www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/localnews/stories/090609thomas_part2.11b5e0965.html

While reading the story, I could not help thinking about a little boy we tried to adopt several years ago (see http://adisciplesthoughts.blogspot.com/2007/06/sage.html). Every life is valuable, as the story reminds me.

Bible Studies, STDs, and Unplanned Pregnancies

Here is an excerpt from our minister Ron Babbit's recent newsletter to supporters of his ministry with the Contact Church:

"Recently, during a Bible study, I was reading Luke 7--JESUS AT HIS BEST. The harlot was washing JESUS' feet. The young lady in the Bible study told me that she has a sexually transmitted disease. She hasn't been in school since February 2009. She doesn't stay with her mom; they are battling. GOD provided an opportunity to share the love of the LORD. Before our Bible study with this darlin, we picked her up as she was walking to visit with her friend who is 12 years old and pregnant. That gives us another opportunity to set her up with Mary Lasarsky. Mary loves, encourages, and teaches darlins who are in trouble with early pregnancies. Remember in Luke 7 the Pharisee sits back and criticizes the harlot washing JESUS' feet? Have you ever noticed how (#1) Pride Paralyzes Us, (#2) Forgiveness Releases Us, (#3) Faith Saves Us?"

Help for Unplanned Pregnancies

"For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb" (Psalm 139:13).

Every once in a while, someone will approach me with a question.

"My son's girlfriend is pregnant. What can I do?"

"Do you happen to be looking to adopt another baby? Because I have a friend who is pregnant and doesn't know how she can take care of her baby."

I would like to help anyone who comes to this blog with similar questions.

If you live in the Tulsa area, the Contact Church of Christ can help through our Contact Life ministry (www.contactchurch.net/contact_life). Through this program for new mothers, expectant and new mothers can learn how to care for their new babies. They will receive necessities like baby formula, diapers, baby clothes, maternity clothes, high chairs, and cribs as they learn.

If you live in Oklahoma, Christian Services of Oklahoma (http://www.christian-adoption.org/) can help with adoption. A maternity home is available for women without a safe place to stay.

In addition, some of the organizations affiliated with the Christian Child and Family Services Association (www.ccfsa.org/members.htm) can help with a variety of needs in several states.

You do not need to face your challenges alone. Caring people are willing to help.
